WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Former Central Catholic pitcher Brett Haan verbally committed to play baseball for the Purdue Boilermakers on Friday.
Haan enjoyed a successful career pitching for the Knights. He was the winning pitcher in the 2011 class 1-A state title game.
Haan then signed to pitch for Parkland College. In his first year with the Cobras, Haan pitched in seven games. He struck out 23 batters and finished the season with a 2-1 record. He had an ERA of 4.13.
Haan still has one more year with Parkland and will join the Boilers in the fall of 2013.
"Verbally committing to Purdue is something I have always wanted to do and it's been a goal of mine since I was at Central Catholic," said Haan.
Haan is focused on developing his pitching and hopes to make an immediate impact when he joins Purdue.
"I just want to get more consistent with all of my pitches. I have been working very hard on my change up and slider. I got pretty good velocity on my fast ball. If I could throw all three pitches for a strike, I could step up at Purdue and help the Boilers right away and that is what they want and I know that is what I want," said Haan.
"I can't wait to step on the field and put on that uniform for coach Doug Schreiber and the Boilermakers," said Haan.
