LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Lafayette Central Catholic's Alex Haan signed her letter of intent with Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College to play soccer.
Haan had a 10-7 record as a goalkeeper for the Knights this past season. She had 9 shutouts and 96 saves. She didn't begin her soccer career until her junior season.
Haan also played softball at Central Catholic. She was selected to the 1A North team in the Indiana Elite Showcases in both soccer and softball, which is a rare achievement.
She also received the Most Improved Player award in soccer.
"We were blessed to have Alex as our goalkeeper," said Central Catholic soccer head coach Bill Kerr. "Along with her skills, determination, and athleticism, Alex has a very wonderful, positive attitude, and a great work ethic. Alex put in a lot of time and sweat to become a better keeper and it showed with her performance on the field. The players and coaches are very happy for Alex as she continues her playing career at St. Mary-of-the-Woods College."
Haan was awarded the Presidential Scholarship by Saint Mary-of-the-Woods for academic achievement.
"Alex is a great young woman with a lot of talents who will do very well both in soccer and as a citizen of the college," said Saint Mary-of-the-Woods soccer head coach Mike Aycock. "I lover the fact that she's an eager, rising talent in goal. We're lucky to have her."
