Governor misses State of the Union, cheers on Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Governor Mitch Daniels was at Klondike Middle School, talking with students and teachers and also touring the school the morning after President Obama's State of the Union address.

NewsChannel 18 asked the governor for his thoughts on President Obama's State of the Union address.

It turns out Daniels "Boilered Up."

"You caught me. I didn't watch it. I was watching the Purdue game as long as it was watchable," Daniels laughed. "Honestly, I've read the accounts. I've got the text of the speech and I'll be reading it between now and the next stop. I think I'll just say that I'm very hopeful that we are going to see changes in national policy."

The Purdue men's basketball team was on the road playing Ohio State Tuesday night at 9:00 p.m., the same time President Obama gave his State of the Union Address.

Daniels was also able to sit down with a few Klondike Middle School students and look through a scrapbook about their school, made just for him. He asked them a lot of questions, but they had a few of their own too, including one student asking Daniels if he was going to run for President.

Daniels laughed and asked if there was anything else the students wanted to ask him.
