LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The McCutcheon girl’s basketball team secured a 56 to 36 win on Wednesday night against Lafayette Jeff. The Mavericks were led by Gabby Gary who scored a game high 24 points.

“For a shooter, what you want to see is a big rim and I think that is what I saw. Some nights I see a little rim and that happens to every shooter but last night was definitely one that looked big so I was pretty confident with all of my shots,” said sophomore guard Gabby Gary.

It wasn't the amount of points she scored that was the story after the game, It was the way she did it.

“The first thing going through my mind was oh my gosh, I hope I'm not making a turnover right now,” said Gabby Gary. “When I turned around and I saw the ball on our side I was like it’s all right for me and I saw it hit the rim and I was like wow we have a shot to put this back in and then it went in and I was literally speechless. I didn't even know what to say or what to do, I just got back on defense,” said Gabby Gary.

Gary was almost perfect from beyond the arc as the sophomore Guard hit seven of nine three pointers. She even made a ridiculous one-handed over the head save that just happened to go in the basket seen in this video from MTC Sports Network.

Her father, Greg Gary had a good night on Wednesday as well. The Boilermaker assistant coach was busy helping the men’s basketball team knock off 11 th ranked Illinois while his daughter was making trick shot.

“It's funny because she heard Coach Painter say anytime it is going out of bounds to save the ball towards your basket,” said Greg Gary. “She told me last night that she remembered Coach Painter saying that so when we she was running out of bounds she was thinking throw it towards the basket, our basket so it's funny. I know how hard she works and the work that she puts in so for it to pay off and for her to have some success, as a parent that always makes you happy,” said Gary.

McCutcheon returns to action on Saturday when the Mavericks host Hamilton Southeastern. Coach Gary and the Boilermakers will be in East Lansing, Michigan taking on Michigan State on Saturday as well.
