LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The Lafayette All-Stars and Hoosier North have continued their rivalry this summer, the two teams have split a pair of games so far this season and they will play one more time before the Colt World Series begins.
After missing out on the Colt World Series, Hoosier North battled back this season and found redemption as they won their local tournament and earned a spot in the Series.
"A relief to make it this year and because it was really disappointing to not make it last year after working so hard and not making it," said Jason Sterrett.
"I am pumped, I have never been able to be apart of the Colt World Series. I think it is going to be really fun and I think we can make a deep run into too," said Travis Palmer.
The Hoosier North squad joins the Lafayette All-Stars in the Series. The two local teams bring back a fun rivalry to the tournament, which was missing last season.
"The game attendance for the fans will be a lot more because it is two local teams. If we play them we just hope to win," said Sterrett.
"The Colt World Series is much better when you have two local teams and high attendance," said Hoosier North head coach Ryan Johnson.
"Having two local teams in here, in years past, one team has played one night and the other team has played the next night. For the fans to be able to come out and see a bunch of different guys not only from the Lafayette area but a lot of surrounding communities has been astronomically beneficial to the program and to the Colt World Series being here in Lafayette," said Lafayette All-Stars head coach Josh Loggins.
But once the Series starts, these two teams will be cheering for each other, unless they are playing one another.
“We want to root for our other hometown team and make sure they can win just as much as we can," said Myles Hann.
The two teams are prepared and focused to make a deep run in the Colt World Series. The first pitch is set to be thrown out at Loeb Stadium on August 3rd.
