CHALMERS, Ind. (WLFI) - Last season, the Frontier's girls basketball team entered its game against West Lafayette with a perfect 12-0 record. Frontier fell short though against the Lady Red Devils, 36 -32. It was a heartbreaking loss that derailed Frontier's hope for a perfect season.
"Last season they were our first loss," said Frontier head coach Cory Runkle. "It was a heartbreaker last year losing a close one at their place."
Fast forward a year and the Lady Falcons found themselves in the exact same position. Frontier was 12-0 entering Saturday's game against West Lafayette. However, this game had a different outcome. The Lady Falcons beat the Lady Red Devils 54-51 and improved to 13-0. Frontier is off to its best start in over a decade.
"To be able to come here on our home court and get a tough win is a big step for the girls and our program," said Runkle.
"It is definitely a nice feeling," said Frontier senior Jenna Sullivan. "It has been a really long time since we have beat West Lafayette."
"It feels really good because we have been looking forward to this and working for this since the beginning of the season," said Frontier senior Jesah Marlatt.
Sullivan finished with 17 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists. Marlatt added 18 points and 3 rebounds in the win.
Frontier hopes this victory sparks the team as it tries to close out the regular season with a perfect record and a Midwest Conference Title.
"We can really do some special things," said Runkle. "We can have a good year and definitely end it differently than how it was last season."
The Lady Falcons tip-off the White County Tournament on January 10 against North White at six pm.
