Four golfers remain with one title on the line

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Two weekends of golf have been played at the 2012 Men's City Golf Championship presented by Bob Rohrman Toyota. Now with just one weekend to go, four golfers have the opportunity to claim this year's title.

Last year's Men's City Tournament champion Jacob Yocum has dominated the first two weekends in this year's tourney. He won the first weekend by five strokes, as he shot an incredible six under par in two days.

"I haven't been getting into trouble. I haven't been giving away strokes. I'd say for people to come out and beat me in my last few matches, they have had to outscore me," said defending champion Jacob Yocum.

Yocum is the number one seed heading into the semi-finals this weekend. He is set to play former West Lafayette boys golf coach Shane Fry.

"On Saturday I just think I will come out here and play and maybe I'll win one. I ended up winning the first one pretty easy and got by the second one somehow. So, here I am still playing," said Shane Fry.

"Shane is playing with a lot of confidence. He is rolling with it and playing well and he is playing with confidence. He has played out here enough that he knows it just takes a simple birdie putt or a good shot somewhere to get you going," said Yocum.

Fry has played well through the first two weekends but he believes he might need a little help to get past Yocum.

"I guess it would probably be near a miracle. Jacob Yocum is a phenomenal golfer. He shot a 65 last weekend out here on Kampen and he has cruised through all of his matches. I know I have a tough assignment ahead of me but I'm going to show up and give it a try," said Fry.

The other semi-finals pairing features four time Men's City Champion Brent Hofman and 2010 champion Craig Hutchinson. The two former champs are ready for another battle.

"I played him in the finals in 2010 and I lost to him in extra holes and I have played at Purdue with him a bunch since then. So, I know what I have to do to go out and beat him. Like I said, I have to play good golf or I'm not going to do it," said 4 time Men’s City Champion Brent Hofman.

"Between him and me, he is the guy to beat. He is a little younger, a little stronger, hits it a little further, and putts it a little better. He gets it around the greens pretty well and he is just a no quit kind of guy and to beat him on Saturday is going to take a really good effort on my part," said 2010 Champion Craig Hutchinson.

Now just two rounds of golf stand in the way of seeing who will be the 2012 Men's City Tournament champion. Let the drama and fun begin.
