WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Fountain Central has been steam rolling its competition this season. In the Mustangs' six wins, they have outscored their opponents 303-56. One of the reasons for the Mustangs' success is due to the play of senior running back and linebacker, Michael Duane.
"He is the best linebacker that I have ever coached. He's the ultimate team player with great skills and that is why he is one of the special ones. We are glad that he is on our team," said Fountain Central Head Coach Brian Moore.
Now due to Duane's exceptional play at linebacker, he earned an unusual nickname, "The Fog."
"You don't normally think of Fog being associated with football. He is just everywhere. He is just hard to block and to judge where he is going to be. He is just like the Fog," said Senior Brad Bowlus.
"Michael has a tendency to not be blocked. He is able to weave his way through the offensive players. You lose him and can't see him. He is always making plays and he is always missing blocks," said Moore.
"It's funny to me. I didn't really know what it meant at first. The coaches told me and it stuck ever since," said Senior Michael Duane.
However, no one seems to know officially who came up with Duane's nickname.
"I think it was Coach Smith that originally came up with it. He called him the Fog," said Moore.
"Me and a couple other players came up with the Fog," said Bowlus.
"I don't really know where it came from, just one day coach called me that," said Duane.
Regardless of the origin of the nickname, it seems it will be staying with him for awhile because no one seems to be able to tackle or block "The Fog."
