Falcons have now or never mindset for Semistate

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - For the second consecutive season the Frontier Falcons are headed back to Semistate.

With a 25-10, 25-16, 25-17 sweep of Riverton Parke in the regional championship game on Tuesday night the Falcons took one step closer to accomplishing something that has never been done in school history.

“It's very exciting because these girls have been playing together for the last two or three years and this is there goal to go all the way. They are on fire, they are playing well together and they want it bad enough that they can do it,” said frontier head coach Shelly Pullins.

Six seniors make up a roster that has loads of experience coming off last season’s run to Semistate and the Falcons are not hiding the fact that they have one goal in mind and that is to make a state finals appearance and win the Class A State Championship.

“At this point everyone has one goal in mind and that is a state match. We are not looking past semi-state but that is what our goal is,” said senior middle blocker Jenna Sullivan.

A season ago the Frontier volleyball team fell short of playing for their first state championship, losing the Class A north semistate championship 25-19, 25-13, 25-20 to Wes-Del.

It concluded the greatest season in program history with a 28-5 record and sectional and regional championships, but this year is different and expectations are much higher.

“Making it to state for the first time would be really awesome. It's something that Frontier has never done so being the first team to do so would be an honor,” said senior defensive specialists Corin Runk.

The first team standing in their way on Saturday morning is Pioneer, a Panthers team that is very familiar with Frontier’s Kattie Lee, who moved from Pioneer to Frontier after Christmas break two years ago.

“We have to come out and play Pioneer like we know how to. I always want to beat them, I came from there and knowing that they are my friends, it’s just a huge match for me,” said senior outside hitter Kattie Lee.
