INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WLFI) - More than 1,500 Hoosiers have purchased season tickets for Indianapolis’ new pro soccer team, scheduled to start play in 2014.
“We are a soccer family and excited about professional soccer coming to Indy,” said Shane Floyd, a soccer fan who bought six season tickets. “We used to drive to Chicago every summer to catch a game and now with our own team in Indy to support we were happy to buy season tickets!”
The name for the men’s pro soccer team, which has not yet been chosen, is in the hands of the soccer community. Soccer fans have the opportunity to vote from a list of possible names or submit an original idea for the Indianapolis expansion team. In the two weeks that the advisory poll has been active, IndyProSoccer.com has received more than 3,000 votes and submissions for an official name.
The list of names the team proposed includes:
Indianapolis Athletic Club (AC)
Indianapolis Majestic
Indianapolis Speed
Indianapolis United
Fan submissions are also being collected at www.indyprosoccer.com.
Indy Pro Soccer President, Peter Wilt, is encouraged by the positive feedback.
“The response from the community has been overwhelming. Indiana, including the huge soccer community, has demonstrated that it wants professional soccer in Indianapolis by buying season tickets in unprecedented numbers.”
On Jan. 16, the North American Soccer League granted an expansion team to Indianapolis and owner Ersal Ozdemir.
Full season tickets range from $135 to $390 and include tickets to 15 home games. Soccer fans can reserve their place in line for season tickets by going to IndyProSoccer.com and placing a $25 deposit. Season tickets will be allocated in the order of deposits received.
Individual game ticket prices range from $10 to $30. A limited number of suites and high end premium seats will also be offered with additional amenities.
