WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - One sensational prep football player from Central Catholic officially signed on the dotted line with his hometown team on Wednesday. Danny Anthrop signed with the Purdue Boilermakers.
For high school seniors, National Signing Day is the first opportunity to sign a National Letter of Intent to make their college football dreams come true.
A short list of local athletes have signed on the dotted line to play division 1 college football. Wednesday, at Central Catholic High School, Danny Anthrop joined Clayton Richard and Dustin Keller as area stars who decided to take their game to the Big Ten Conference.
A School with a rich athletic history, added another name to their list of division 1 athletes on Wednesday when Senior Danny Anthrop became part of Purdue's 2012 recruiting class.
"I think it's kind of an unbelievable story and I really appreciate the opportunity that I have and I'm not going to let Coach Hope down. I am definitely going to do the same work at Purdue and I am really looking forward to it," said senior Danny Anthrop.
For older brother Dru, seeing his younger brother choose the Boilermakers means he will see another familiar face on campus next fall.
"I'm looking forward to hanging out with him for at least one more year and I'm excited to see what he is going to do for Purdue. It's a big day for Daniel, I am really happy and I think Purdue will be a good fit for him. And I'm glad that Coach Hope gave him an opportunity and I know Daniel is going to run with it," said Purdue basketball player Dru Anthrop.
As for how the Boilermakers plan to use the Central Catholic Star is yet to be determined but Head Coach Danny Hope is excited to have number 33 on campus.
"I like everything about Danny Anthrop and really his recruiting process was kind of a throwback in some ways. When his senior video tape came out, I thought he was a significantly better player, a significantly more explosive player, faster player, more aggressive player, more confident player than he was as a junior," said Purdue head coach Danny Hope.
Danny Anthrop joins a loaded 2012 Purdue recruiting class that most experts believe ranks as the fourth-best class in the Big Ten.
