Danny Anthrop set to join Boilermaker track & field team

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Purdue freshman to be Danny Anthrop will be a little busier during his football off-seasons as the Lafayette Central Catholic graduate has decided to join the Boilermaker track & field team.

Anthrop a 3 star wide receiver recruit according to rivals.com is set to join head coach Danny Hope and the Boilermaker football team for team camp in August has decided that in his down time he will continue to develop as a standout on the track.

Anthrop met earlier this week with Purdue assistant coach Myron McClure and the two decided that he could make an immediate impact during the indoor season.

"I got a chance to see him at state and he is a very explosive kid. He would be a great leg for a relay and possibly even a scorer in the Big Ten in the sprints, probably the 60-meter dash," said McClure.

Anthrop will follow in the footsteps of Purdue's Ishmael Aristide, Gary Bush, Normondo Harris, Akeem Hunt, Shane Mikesky, and Raheem Mostert who all spend time on the track when football is not in full swing at Purdue.

"He is a nice sized kid so his speed and explosiveness will benefit both football and track and the fact that he could continue both from high school should benefit him. I think he will be able to get better as he gets bigger, stronger, and more flexible. He is really just a good kid, well-mannered, from an all-around good family," said McClure.
