Connolly enjoys Olympic Trials

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Jenny Connolly left an incredible legacy at Harrison High School as she walked away from the swimming program with five state titles and ten All-American honors.

Connolly continued her career at the collegiate level at Tennessee, where she recently was honored with the Tennessee Amateur Athlete of the Year Award.

"It was a really great honor and something that I really didn't see coming and honestly didn't even know there was an award like that. I was just lucky to be there I think," said Connolly.

Just over a week ago, Connolly competed at the Olympic Trials in the finals of the 100 meter backstroke. She came up just short, as she finished in sixth place, three spots away from earning a trip to London.

"It kind of sunk in that I'm not an Olympian and that was pretty hard to swallow. I gave it my all and I had a fun time doing it and so I can't complain," said Connolly.

Connolly is now taking a break from swimming and focusing on the new love of her life.

"I mean, I am getting married in August and that is all that I am focusing on right now is just planning a wedding. So that is on the forefront of my mind and swimming for the first time in my life is going to take a back seat," said Connolly.

Regardless of whether she decides to try out for the Olympics again, she is just thankful for all of the people that helped her get this far in her life.

"I really couldn't have gotten that far without the people that I had been fortunate enough to meet and been fortunate enough to train with and have as a coach. I was so happy and proud of myself. I'm sure I didn't let anyone down and I was happy that I didn't even let myself down. I was so proud," said Connolly.
