WASHINGTON, DC. (WLFI) - The Indianapolis Colts fell to the Washington Redskins 30-17 at FedEx Field on Saturday afternoon.
On the team’s third possession of the game, quarterback Andrew Luck engineered an 11-play, 75-yard drive, which culminated in a 31-yard touchdown pass to rookie wide receiver T.Y. Hilton. The touchdown tied the score at 7-7 in the second quarter. Luck completed 4-of-7 passes on the drive for 67 yards.
“He faced quite a few sacks today, which is why we have to go back and take a look at the tape in order to keep him clean. We knew that the Redskins defense was going to bring a ton of pressure, so we have to look at the tape,” said Colts Head Coach Chuck Pagano.
The Colts mounted their second touchdown drive of the game in the fourth quarter as the team drove 79 yards on eight plays. On a fourth down play from Washington’s two-yard line, running back Darren Evans dove into the end zone for his second touchdown of the preseason.
Quarterback Andrew Luck finished the game having completed 14-of-23 passes for 151 yards, one touchdown and a 94.7 quarterback rating. Quarterback Chandler Harnish replaced Luck in the third quarter and completed 12-of-19 passes for 147 yards and an 87.0 rating.
“We have a lot to improve on. I want to give credit to their defense. They forced us into some bad situations. The penalties and sacks really killed a couple of our drives but I’m glad we put points on the board when we did. I wish we would have got that two-minute drive into field goal range. I know I wish I would have run or thrown it out of bounds to try to get another completion to save some time and get some more yards. I’m glad it doesn’t count in the win-loss column. I’m glad it is a preseason game and we look forward to watching the film and being our harshest critics,” said Colts Quarterback Andrew Luck.
Wide receiver Griff Whalen led the team in receiving with eight catches for 66 yards while wide receiver T.Y. Hilton contributed with four catches for 54 yards and his first touchdown as a member of the Colts in the second quarter.
In his Colts debut, wide receiver Donnie Avery finished second on the team with six receptions, totaling 38 receiving yards.
