Purdue's Jackson suspended for 3 games

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Purdue head men's basketball coach Matt Painter announced on Tuesday that sophomore guard Lewis Jackson has been suspended for the first three games of the 2009-2010 season.

Jackson will miss Purdue's exhibition games against California of Pennsylvania and Kentucky Wesleyan on November 3 and 9, respectively, for violations of team policy. The

NCAA also issued Jackson a one-game suspension, to be served during the Boilermakers' season opener against Cal State Northridge on November 13,

Jackson was suspended for playing in an NCAA-sanctioned event without prior approval from his head coach and compliance director.

"Lewis has taken responsibility for his actions and understands the consequences associated with them," Purdue head coach Matt Painter said. "He has committed to putting these issues behind him and his focus is on meeting the standard to which we hold members of our program."

Jackson will be eligible to return to the court when Purdue meets South Dakota State on November 20 in the first round of the Paradise Jam.
