Decmeber 11, 2008 - CHICAGO, Ill.-(AP)-Robbie Gould kicked a 35-yard field goal in overtime to give the Chicago Bears a 27-24 overtime win over the New Orleans Saints Thursday night at Soldier Field.
The game featured a matchup for former Purdue quarterbacks Drew Brees and Kyle Orton facing each other, just the second time in the last 21 years a pair of former Boilermaker quarterbacks have faced each other in a regular season NFL game.
Brees, the Saints' starting quarterback, was 24-43 for 232 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Brees threw a 2-yard TD pass to Pierre Thomas in the second quarter and an 11-yard scoring to Marques Colston in the fourth quarter.
Orton, the Bears' starting QB, was 24-40 for 172 yards and two interceptions. Orton ran for a six-yard TD late in the second quarter.
Attending the game was retiring Purdue Head Football Coach Joe Tiller, who was watching his former quarterbacks play an NFL game in person for the first time. Brees and Orton posed for a picture with Tiller on the field moments after the Bears' overtime victory.
The victory improves the Bears' record to 8-6. The Saints are now 7-7.
