INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WLFI) - Football is in the O'Shea family blood. Frank O'Shea is the father of Central Catholic's head coach Kevin O'Shea and the Knights defensive coordinator Tim O'Shea.
Frank was inducted into the Indiana high school football hall of fame this past June. He has passed his knowledge and experience of the game on to his two sons and it has paid off. The father and son duo helped lead Central Catholic to a class 1A record, four straight state football titles.
"Every parent wants their children to do better than they do and not just Kevin but Tim," said Frank O'Shea. "He has been the defensive coordinator and I think our defense has given up one touchdown in four championship games. As a parent, my wife and I are very proud."
"It has always been a dream to coach with my brother and father and being here with the Central Catholic community has been special too," said Tim O'Shea. "This group that has come through four years in a row now and even the group that came before them, it has been an experience I'll never forget. "
"For lack of a better word it is just neat. It is neat to be part of this and it is neat to be part of this community," said Kevin O'Shea. "To be out there with your dad who is 71 years old. He is still trying to get around on the sidelines the best that he can and to share this with your brother who has been the defensive coordinator for so many years."
Frank said the two boys wanted to learn the game of football at young age but Kevin seemed to live and breathe it.
"I can remember when Kevin was four years old and I used to watch films on my refrigerator door and he used to help me scout teams at four years old," said Frank O'Shea. "I would tell him to watch the left guard and he would tell me whether he passed block or pulled. So, he started at a pretty early age. Tim, he was playing with his cars I think."
Now even though Frank is ready for a little vacation time after this title. The O'Shea brothers plan on coaching for as long as they can.
"Now I am going to take a little vacation, I think," said Frank O'Shea.
"We are going to definitely continue coaching football," said Tim O'Shea. "Central Catholic has been a great place and they have welcomed us in and hopefully we can continue a long career there."
"You will probably have to pull me off the sideline someday and tell me that I am too old," said Kevin O'Shea.
