WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Day nine of camp for the Purdue football team began earlier today with a spirited morning practice at the Bimel Practice Complex.

The Boilermakers defensive unit spent a majority of their time on Monday morning focusing on minor details as they continue to implement a new scheme with new defensive coordinator Tim Tibesar.

Defensive End Ryan Russell is encouraged with the work of the defensive unit since spring football began and hopes the Boilermakers can continue to adapt quickly.

“Everybody is very energetic and fired up about the season. We know that we have a lot of potential and a lot of aspects that we are trying to live up to every day. It looks like we have been doing it a long time and the coaches even feel like they have been here for a long time so I like the chemistry of the team and the coaches and we are definitely executing the defense,” said Russell.

The Boilermaker secondary will be anchored by the dangerous duo of junior Ricardo Allen and senior Josh Johnson. With a week of camp in the books, they feel ahead of the game when it comes to learning a new system and have high expectations for the upcoming season.

“We have a lot of athletic talented players so our key right now is to do your job. Do your job is focusing on your details and your part of the job and if you can do yours then the play will come to you or somebody else will easily make the play,” said junior Ricardo Allen.

“Everyday we are shooting for perfection but there are no guarantees that it will happen. At the same time we are trying to make our defense being known that we are attackers. Coach Burns puts that on our board all the time, attack, attack, attack, when teams turn on the film we want them to think that the Purdue defense attacks everything,” said senior Josh Johnson.
