LOGANSPORT, Ind. (WLFI) - From the moment Elizabeth Burton stepped in between the lines on Wednesday night, the junior forward was on a mission to keep her season alive. Needless to say, she set the tone early.
Burton scored twice during the game’s first 11 minutes, she then added a third with just over 35 minutes remaining in the second half and added a remarkable assist on Bailey Smith’s goal with 22:07 to play in the Mavericks 4-1 victory over Yorktown.
“I mean we played as hard as we could and I think the first five minutes really matter and being able to score early really set the tone for the game,” said Elizabeth Burton
McCutcheon advances to play Hamilton Southeastern at 1 p.m. Saturday in the regional final. HSE defeated Kokomo, 6-0, in Wednesday’s second contest. The Mavericks lost to the Royals 2-0.
“I told the girls that we are now one of sixteen teams left in the state. We are going to stay and watch a little of this game and see what our opponent has in store for us. We have a pretty good idea of what's going to happen. We will go from there and hopefully we can get the job done on Saturday,” said McCutcheon Head Coach Jason Donkersloot.
