WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Purdue's baseball team ended its tenure at Lambert Field in historic fashion last season.

The Boilers won 45 games and their first Big Ten title in 103 years. They picked up a Big Ten Tournament title win. They made the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1987, and they won their first NCAA tournament game in program history.

Now, the Boilers transition to their new home this season at Alexander Field, where they hope to continue to build off of last season's success.

"Building off the publicity and things that we got last year in winning a championship and having the type of season that we had," said Purdue head coach Doug Schreiber. "I think there are going to be people getting out here and we want to build on that."

"It definitely is one of the building blocks for future years," said Purdue junior Sean McHugh.

The new amenities that the Stadium offers will help the program in recruiting and continuing the tradition of Purdue baseball.

"When recruits came here they definitely love the place and I am sure they walk away from here and say that Purdue is not missing anything," said Schreiber.

"It's obviously good for recruits to see that we have one of the top notch facilities in the country right now. So, it's good," said Purdue Senior Angelo Cianfrocco.

The Boilers hope the fans will enjoy the new experience that Alexander Field creates for them.

"We would like to see it sold out for every game obviously. We want to create a great environment for our fans and players," said Schreiber.

Purdue will play its first game at Alexander Field on March 19, 2013 against Illinois-Chicago.
