LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Benton Central and West Lafayette both cruised to victories on Tuesday night at the J&C Hoops Classic at McCutcheon High School.
Benton Central was led by senior guard Caitlyn Tolen who scored a game high 23 points, grabbed 4 rebounds, and recorded 5 steals. The Knights had no answer for the Benton Central full court press as they forced 50 CC turnovers on the night.
Central Catholic hung around as long as they could thanks in large part by the play of freshman guard Cameron Onken. Onken finished with 10 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in her Hoops debut. Senior Alanna Roswarski led the Knights in scoring with 13 points and also added a team high 12 rebounds.
In game two, West Lafayette squared off against the McCutcheon Mavericks. The Mavericks got off to a great start in this one as they took an early 4-0 lead. But back came the Red Devils, Kayla Jones poured in shot after shot from beyond the arc and in a matter of minutes the Red Devils were leading 17-4.
Jones finished the night on 4-6 shooting from 3 point range for 14 points and she also added 4 steals. West Lafayette senior Anna Searle also added 14 points for the Red Devils who never looked back from that early first quarter lead.
Benton Central and West Lafayette will now meet in the semi-finals of the J&C Hoops Classic on Friday night. Tip is set for 8:00 p.m.
