WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Purdue's Danny Anthrop made his first appearance in a gold and black uniform in week one against Eastern Kentucky. Two weeks later, Anthrop pulled off another first as he scored his first career touchdown.
"I remember my first high school touchdown and it was pretty similar to that," said Anthrop. "I had a lot of good blocks that whole drive. I'm really glad I had the opportunity to get in and get some big carries."
"You could tell the crowd was pulling for him with him being a hometown guy," said Purdue quarterback Rob Henry. "So, definitely very excited for him."
Anthrop carried the ball five times and gained 47 yards late in the fourth quarter.
"Danny has a heart of a lion. He runs the ball hard and it was fun to see him out there and making the plays that he was," said Henry.
Anthrop continues to play a bigger role on special teams in each game with the Boilers. He is just focused on getting better each time he is out on the field, no matter what his role is.
"They are trying to get me to learn a couple more positions on special teams so I can get in there on different occasions," said Anthrop. "Just got to keep working and everything will fall into place."
Also during Saturday's win against Eastern Michigan, Purdue defensive end Ryan Russell went down with a knee injury. Russell is fine and is not scheduled for an MRI.
