WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Wednesday was a big day for West Lafayette High School senior Justus Stanback as the Red Devils forward-center signed a national letter of intent to play college basketball at IUPUI.
"It's just like a different experience," Stanback said after signing his letter of intent. "It's good to know that I'll be playing somewhere next year so I can worry about school and the high school team."
Stanback, a 6'7" forward-center, is the son of former Purdue basketball player Ian Stanback. Justus Stanback is also the first Red Devils player during the 19-year head coaching tenure of Dave Wood at West Lafayette to sign a Division One national letter of intent. Former Red Devil Andy "Bubba" Day walked on at Purdue and played from 2008 to 2011.
"It's good because my family can watch and I know they'll support me," Justus Stanback added. "And I can come home on the weekends if I want."
