Spartans drop Boilers

Hummel honored at halftime

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - On a night when former Boilermaker great Robbie Hummel was in attendance, Michigan State handed Purdue a 78-65 loss in Big Ten basketball Saturday night at Mackey Arena.

Branden Dawson led the Spartans with 20 points while Derrick Nix and Keith Appling added 17 points apiece for the Spartans.

Hummel, who is playing his professional season overseas in Spain, was honored at halftime as a banner with the number 4 was hung from the rafters. Hummel wore number 4 during his college career with the Boilermakers. Hummel, who finished his playing career with the Boilers last year, also received the Big Ten Medal Honor during a halftime ceremony during which the popular former Boilermaker received mulitple ovations.

Terone Johnson led the Boilers with 20 points. Ronnie Johnson added 15 points and A.J. Hammons 13 points as the Boilermakers dropped to 5-6 in conference play and 12-12 overall.
