Lafayette, Ind. (WLFI) - Jesse Berry is a nightmare for opposing defenses. This season, he's led the Bronchos to their third straight J & C Hoops Classic title and he's scored 152 points in 3 games this year.
Jesse Berry says, "I just want to help my team win. We've been facing adversity a lot with a couple players being hurt and a couple players being off the team, and a couple suspension. I just want to do everything I can to help my team win."
Bronchos head coach Scot Bunnell said, "He works extremely hard on his game. He takes a lot of pride in being a good player. He takes a lot of pride in trying to imporve in areas that he needs to improve in. I think we've seen that from last year to this year that he's done those things."
One of Berry's biggest accomplishments this season is setting the school record for points in a game. He set it earlier this season, scoring 51 against Rossville. This past Friday night he dropped 55 against Fishers, breaking his own record.
Berry says, "It really means a lot to me, but stuff like that you have to put behind you. It's good for the moment, but you still want to get focused on the season and do whatever you can to get your team better."
Earlier this season, a decision was made by coach Bunnell and Berry family to sit him out for a couple of games. They made this decision to show Berry the high expectations they have for him both on and off the court.
Berry says, "Yes, I do think it was the best for me. I had a little adjustment with coach. We were kind of into it, but I got my head on straight and I'm back with my coach and everything's cools, so we're good."
Coach Bunnell explains, "His mom and me got together. We felt like we needed to make sure he was going in the right direction. Not just basketball wise, but off the court stuff, and he handled that extremely well."
With about a season and a half of high school basketball yet to be played, Berry hopes to take his game to an even higher level.
