SAN DIEGO, Calif. (WLFI) - Lafayette native and former McCutcheon Maverick Clayton Richard threw a five-hit, complete-game shutout in leading the San Diego Padres to a 2-0 victory over the Chicago Cubs Wednesday at Petco Park.
It is the first complete-game shutout in at the Major League level for the left-handed Richard.
Richard struck out five and walked just one in improving his season record to 9-11 and lowering his earned run average in 2012 to 3.79.
In addition, the Padres handed the slumping Cubs their eighth straight loss.
