WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The 11th-ranked Purdue women's basketball team defeated Indiana 59-42 at Mackey Arena Thursday night.
“Tough battle, it doesn't matter who you are playing, the IU versus Purdue rivalry is very tough and I'm just proud of our players and how they continued to have other players step up and be consistent,” said Purdue head coach Sharon Versyp. “When two of our top scorers struggle tonight scoring other people stepped up and that is a great sign of a great team. That doesn't always happen on every team so I was really proud of our effort,” said Versyp.
Senior Sam Ostarello posted a double-double to lead 11th-ranked Purdue womens basketball to a 59-42 victory over in-state rival Indiana Thursday night at Mackey Arena.
“I think any night it could be anybody's night to go off. We really have six or seven scoring options. Dee Dee came in and had seven of our twelve points early on with a three pointer. April came in and KK comes in, and Taylor of course down low. We have a lot of scoring options,” said senior forward Sam Ostarello.
With the win, the Boilermakers improve their undefeated record at Mackey Arena this season to 9-0.
Ostarello scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Boilers improved to 7-1 in Big Ten play and 18-3 overall. KK Houser added 12 points and seven rebounds while freshmen April Wilson and Taylor Manuel combined for 23 points.
Purdue travels to seventh-ranked Penn State Monday night to take on the Big Ten-leading Lady Lions.
