NEW YORK, New York (WLFI) - A questionable flagrant foul against Purdue senior D.J. Byrd gave Villanova some much-needed points from the free throw line in the final minute of regulation, with the Wildcats eventually capitalizing to post an 89-81 overtime victory over Purdue Thursday night at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The Boilermakers led by four points in the final minute of regulation when Byrd was given a flagrant foul by referees while trying to protect the ball from a pair of Wildcats defenders. The flagrant foul was Byrd's fifth foul of the game, fouling the Boilermaker senior out of the game.

Byrd led the Boilermakers with 16 points. Terone Johnson had 13 points. Freshman point guard Ronnie Johnson added 12 points and nine assists while redshirt freshman forward Donnie Hale chipped in with 11 points.

The loss drops to Purdue to 1-2 on the season.
