WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Robbie Hummel scored a season-high 29 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Purdue to a 83-65 victory over Nebraska in men's college basketball at Mackey Arena Wednesday night.
"I credit our offense, I think guys are doing a great job of moving, screening, finding the open man. When we are unselfish like that we are hard to guard," said senior Robbie Hummel.
D.J. Byrd scored 15 points, grabbed four rebounds, and dished out three assists in his first game since serving a one-game suspension for an off-the-court indicent.
"When we have those shooters out on the floor and when we are moving on offense and Terone gets the ball and drives to the basket I think when we mix that up we are pretty tough. Terone did a good job of getting to the basket and getting easy buckets and having a combination of that. Making the right decision and picking the right times to attack is what we did well today," said junior D.J. Byrd.
Senior guards Lewis Jackson and Ryne Smith added 13 points and 12 points, respectively. Jackson also had five assists. Sophomore Terone Johnson was the fifth Boilermaker to score in double figures in the victory, finishing with 11 points.
"There was definitely a spot there where I need to step up and not only me but the guards and D.J. and also AJ. I feel like we are going to be playing a lot more minutes here and getting out there and making the most of it is important," said sophomore Terone Johnson.
With the win, Purdue improves to 8-7 in Big Ten play and 18-10 overall. The Boilermakers take on Michigan on Saturday at six p.m. Eastern time in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
