WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Terone Johnson scored 24 points to lead Purdue men's basketball to a 70-61 victory over Montevallo in the Boilermakers exhibition opener Tuesday night at Mackey Arena.

Johnson connected on 7-9 free throw attempts in the win.

"I thought he was more aggressive and you can see that with him going 7 for 9 from the free throw line," said Purdue head coach Matt Painter. "We should have stopped and had a party and made it a national holiday. I'm just joking. He has worked on it. His form is better and I think that confidence has helped him at the free throw line and shooting perimeter shots."

Anthony Johnson added 12 points for the Boilermakers and freshman point guard Ronnie Johnson added 11 points and six assists. Ronnie Johnson is the younger brother of Terone Johnson.

The Boilermakers led Montevallo, a Division Two university located in Alabama, 32-24 at halftime.

The Boilers host Newberry in their second and final exhibition game Saturday night at 8:00 pm at Mackey Arena.
