WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - A number of area football standouts, as well as a former Purdue basketball star, will be honored Thursday night at the annual National Football Foundation awards banquet.

The event, recognized as "Celebrating Our Legends VIII", will take place at the Purdue Memorial Union.

The NFF group, known as the Joe Tiller Chapter representing Northwest Indiana, will honor a number of high school football standouts as well as a number of those who have worked in a football-related capacity for a number of years.

A first-time occurrence will happen with the NFF Joe Tiller Chapter when former Purdue basketball star Robbie Hummel will receive the Drew Brees Mental Toughness Award, named in honor of the former Boilermaker quarterback. Hummel is the first non-football player to receive the award.

Former Boiler football great and current Washington Redskins defensive player Ryan Kerrigan is going to be in attendance and will be hosting a golf outing at Purdue's Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex earlier in the day on June 21.
