LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Lafayette Post 11 baseball rebounded from a slow start during the regular season to win the American Legion Regional baseball tournament at Loeb Stadium in Lafayette, defeating Richmond Post 65 9-4 in Sunday's championship game.
After losing the opening Sunday's opening to the Richmond squad by a final of 10-0, Post 11 bounced back in the title game, scoring seven runs in the third inning.
"It was really special," an emotional Lafayette Post 11 Head Coach Dan Yeoman said after the regional title-winning victory, "We came back from a 5-21 start, 0-16 in Indiana, and now we've won 10 of our last 12...it means a great deal to me for the kids."
Post 11 pitcher Parker Rhoads, who closed out the game for winning pitcher Wes Rebledo, is thrilled to be competing in next week's American Legion State Baseball Tournament in Plymouth.
"It means the world," Rhoads said. "Very few people in the state of Indiana or anywhere get to play in a state tournament. It's an honor to do it."
