WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Purdue Football held its first official practice Saturday, an opening day of workouts that Boilermaker Head Coach Danny Hope was pleased with.

"It was a very good first day of practice," Hope said minutes after the first day of workouts concluded. "Hoping to pick up where we left off at the end of spring. I think we're close to that and that's good."

One of Purdue's captains, running back Akeem Shavers, echoes Hope's thoughts.

"We got out there, everybody started moving around, and we got the momentum going," Shavers added. "It's like we couldn't stop. It's like everybody wanted to go and just keep playing all day."

Another Boilermaker captain, tight end Crosby Wright, said training camp started off on an optimistic note.

"We believe in ourselves and we know what we're capable of doing this year," said Wright. "There's such a spirit about our team this year."

Purdue Football is expected to return to the practice field for a second day of workouts Sunday.
