Colt World Series Tryouts

Loggins to manage Lafayette All-Stars

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Tryouts were held Sunday and Monday for spots on the Lafayette All-Stars Colt World Series team.

First-year manager Josh Loggins, who was an assistant coach on last year's Lafayette All-Stars team, hosted two days of tryouts with the final day of workouts taking place Monday at McCutcheon High School.

"I think it's always a challenge in the first few days to figure out who is out here," said Loggins, a former standout catcher at Harrison High School. "I put a lot of trust into the high school coaches this year and who they felt like who was the most deserving to be on the Lafayette All-Stars."

The Lafayette All-Stars advanced to the semifinals of the 2011 Colt World Series, which was eventually won by a team from Los Gatos, California.

Loggins said the selection process is enjoyable but also takes some effort.

"It's a challenge to find guys that gel and can play a lot of positions and move around the diamond," added Loggins. "Typically in a Colt World Series setting like that where you have a lot of switches and things happen...when you find guys that can move around is a benefit."

The 2012 Colt World Series is scheduled to take place in early August at Loeb Stadium in Lafayette.
