WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Game day barricades will return to the Purdue Village for the football season.
The year's first Campus Community Bar Retail Coalition meeting was held Thursday afternoon. West Lafayette Police Chief Jason Dombkowski said barricades will only be in place for two nights instead of three.
"We're going to put them up on Friday morning, and just have them up over Friday and Saturday. Last year it was Thursday, Friday and Saturday. We're still going to staff the village the same on Thursday evenings, just not have the barricades up," Dombkowski.
Chief Domkowski added putting the barricades in place Thursday is no longer necessary because the crowds are not as large at the top of the hill. But he said you can expect to see the same about of blue uniforms.
"At least two sets of foot patrol between West Lafayette Police and Purdue Police, most likely three sets and that will continue through the weekend.
Dan Adams is the manager of the Where Else? Bar. He said the barricades are a welcome return.
"To be able to control that much traffic that comes through that corridor, especially on breakfast club weekends and stuff, it's been a great blessing for us. It really helps control them," said Adams.
Another issue that was brought to the attention of bar managers was keeping the lines for Breakfast Club against the walls and making sure bouncers hired to check IDs are not drinking while doing so.
Clean up after football weekends will be taken care of by Tippecanoe County Community Corrections.
