WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The West Lafayette Board of Works will continue to help fund the Lafayette Crisis Center.

The Crisis Center is having a crisis of its own when it comes to funding. A budget shortfall for the United Way shortened the center's bottom line by $ 11,000.

Crisis Center Executive Director Jane McCann said the $8,000 contract with the city will come in handy.

She and other board members made their case before Board of Works members.

"We were reaffirming who we are and what we do for the community," said McCann. "Some new members of the Board of Works we had not visited with so we came in this year to clarify."

McCann said the much needed money will help the center maintain its 24-hour call service, as well as meeting other needs.

"We are the suicide prevention center for people that may be overwhelmed with life and think of ending that," said McCann. "We provide the communities comprehensive information services about local social service agencies and how to use them and reach their services."
