WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Getting your money questions answered could be a click away.
The Purdue Extension Office launched a new website called
"Money on
Your Mind."
Elizabeth Kiss, Purdue Consumer Extension Specialist, said in today's economy people go to the web for answers to their money-related questions.
"They're concerned about retirement, they're concerned about financing their children's education," she said.
These are a few of the reasons Kiss said the Purdue Extension Office is launching the "Money on Your Mind" website. It helps users find resources to prevent identity theft and fraud, stretch your dollar, manage mortgages, and communicate about money. But the website is more than a list of links, it takes a unique approach to finding answers.
"It asks a series of questions and there's a check box and if this question is of interest to you today, you put a check and then submit and then what you get back is the list of resources that relate to some issues to those questions," she said.
With most retirement funds in a slump, Kiss said many people are taking a second look at their futures.
"I think a lot of people are rethinking what they're going to do," she said. "Can they retire when they thought they would?"
The site also gives tips to making your money go further using the do-it-yourself method.
"There's also a desire to be more self reliant," she said. "And that plays out on the local food movement, the desire to preserve our own food."
She also said the site gives ways you and your family can still have summer fun, without breaking the bank. And if you have a money question you just can't find the answer to, try the 'ask the expert' tab.
"If they have questions, there's a little box. They can ask us a question and send it in," she said.
