LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The first step to saving on your cell phone could be as easy as glancing at your bill each month. Evaluate what you need and what you don't need. There may be other options out there.
AT&T Regional Manager Doug Griffinsaid one way to cut down is to combine your plan with family members.
"There's really no reason for each line to be paying a high individual access fee when you can do a family share plan," said .
Griffin says one of the biggest money wasters is having a plan that doesn't fit your needs, forcing some customers to pay up to $.45 a minute in overage fees.
"For instance, if you have a teenager that continues to bust their text messaging limit you definitely want to look at upping that plan or even doing an unlimited plan just to make sure that you're not paying costly overages," he said.
People who don't use a cell phone often may be able to save by getting rid of their monthly bill altogether.
"If you're a user that uses wireless infrequently or even rarely, prepaid is a great option because it allows you to decide how many minutes you want to add to your phones," Griffin said.
And as easy as it sounds, one of the simplest ways to save is to pay your phone bill on time. Overdue fees can cost a bundle in the long run.
