LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Adding the red, white, and blue to your Independence Day cookout doesn't have to mean giving up the green.
You can throw a great party this Fourth of July without breaking the bank.
The key could be buying in bulk.
Patrick Johnson, Owner of D&R Supermarket, said buying meat such as pork chops in bulk can make a big difference. In fact, buying the cuts individually could nearly double your cost.
Johnson says the same is true with beef. He said buying ribeye steak in bulk could save nearly $80 over purchasing individually packaged meat. However, he does emphasize the importance of using all of the meat within a reasonable amount of time. Otherwise, you may waste money when the meat goes bad.
"If you're going to be a person who buys in bulk, you have to be committed to that program," he said. "And what I mean by that is when you're buying it, you're putting it in the freezer, presumably, then you want to make sure that you use it up and that it doesn't become a staple of the freezer."
Another great way to save is to pick up store circulars and search for July 4th sales. Stores typically discount products such as soda, chips, and much more. Follow these tips to help you save while celebrating America's independence.
