LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Tippecanoe County residents have until November 10th to pay their property taxes.
It was standing room only at the Tippecanoe County Office Building on the morning of November 8th. Residents came prepared with cash or check to erase their respective balances.
Tippecanoe County Treasurer Bob Plantenga said the county has reached its halfway point.
As of November 8th, here was how the numbers broke down:
Total Amount Due: $69,424,304.53
Amount Paid: $38,002,123.94
Remaining Amount Due: $31,422,180.59
The county has collected almost 55% of the final amount so far. Plantenga said if the rest is not collected the county could suffer.
"You have to cut services,” said Plantenga. “We cannot really increase revenue any other place. Certainly not the schools or the libraries that really depend on property taxes. So, if these are not paid, the only thing you can do is cut what you are offering."
November 10th is the official day to have your bill paid. A number of residents did not want to wait until the last minute to pay their property taxes.
Plantenga said the November 10th pay-by-date should be familiar to some.
"Over the last few years people have gotten off that based on changes to trends but now we are back to May 10th or November 10th so you can pay in a lot of different ways,” said Plantenga.
