LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Toyota will stop production at five of its plants nationwide for a week, including the Camry production done at Subaru of Indiana Automotive Inc. (SIA) in Lafayette
The move comes as the automaker tries to figure how to fix faulty accelerator pedals that can stick.
The problem triggered a massive recall last week.
The automaker said that in total both sales and production are being halted for eight of its cars.
Tom Easterday, the senior vice-president of SIA, said Toyota working towards a solution.
"Right now Toyota is working on meeting with the national highway traffic safety administration and discussing the fix that they would like to implement," said Easterday.
SIA Spokeswoman Jennifer McGarvey said production of the Camry at SIA will be suspended for one week beginning Monday, February 1.
She said the 1000 associates who work the Camry line will be provided with eight-hour work days for the week.
Non-production related work will be available to them.
Associates also have the option to use their paid time off or take unpaid excused days off.
