LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - A local non-profit organization receives $12,000 from the Marquis Foundation. Community Cancer Network received the check Wednesday at the Lafayette Country Club.

Over the past two years the organization has been helping cancer patients with transportation, fuel cards to help pay for gas, financial help, assistance with medications and paying co-pays. Community Cancer Network Chairman Doctor Wael Harb said the money the network received will allow the Community Cancer Network to help even more patients and also help them with more needs they may have.

"Drug assistance, financial help. None of it will go towards administrative. It will all help daily needs of patients," he said.

Community Cancer Network Patient Advocate Melinda Bond said $12,000 will go a long way.

"It means when someone calls I'm not going to have to tell them no. I will be able to provide the assistance they need," she said.

The Marquis Foundation is now accepting applications from organizations for next year. Call 765-429-5443 for more information.
