LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Alorica Inc. announced today that it will be establishing a new in-bound customer service center in Lafayette, creating more than 600 new jobs.
Alorica is a customer service management firm that provides a variety of services from call-center operations to web logistic services. They provide customer service for a variety of clients including some Fortune 500 companies, and are headquartered in Chino, California.
They plan to take over the 49,900 square foot building on Sagamore Parkway previously occupied by Silent Thunder, an indoor go-kart track.
"Bringing a major new employer to town is great news, especially when it's a well-established, growing company known for first-rate service, cutting-edge operations and a focus on providing employees with paid training, fair wages, good benefits and long-term security," said Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski.
The spokesman for Alorica, Gary Kimnach, said that the company plans to ramp up hiring quite quickly.
"We are actually starting right now on the construction process," said Kimnach.
Beginning June 1, interested applicants can apply for positions at Alorica Inc.'s new location at www.indianacareerconnect.com . Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and basic typing skills; sales and customer experience are important.
Alorica plans to start hiring within the next week or two and hopes to start its first training program in the area on July 6.
They hope to have 150-200 people in that first session of training classes.
Kimnach also said that some portion of the 600 hired will be for management positions, and they expect to hire many from the community.
Kimnach said the company had been looking at the Lafayette area since last October as well as two other locations. He said that Alorica had been pleasantly surprised at what Indiana had to offer.
Kimnach credited Mayor Roswarski as being instrumental in helping Alorica get a good picture of the Lafayette area from the very beginning of their search.
Mayor Roswarski was quick to share that credit with the rest of the city employees. He also pointed out that the fact that Alorica chose Lafayette sends a positive message to other companies.
"We all know that in the community the name of the game is jobs, and in today's challenging times, posting a big win like this on Lafayette's employment scoreboard says a lot for our community and for our citizens. It sends a message to everybody that we are truly open for business," said Roswarski."
Alorica created a call center in Terra Haute last year. They made a commitment to create 600 jobs at that location and currently employ over 750. Alorica has more than 7,500 employees at 16 locations worldwide.
