LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The City of Lafayette is extending an assistance program for homebuyers.
The Norfolk Crossing Downpayment Assistance Program started in 2004. Since then 12 houses have sold, but 6 more remain.
Aimee Jacobsen with Community Development said the downturn in the economy is a big reason why the homes have not sold.
Jacobsen said by extending the program, it allows more people to move in to this new-looking neighborhood.
"It's really transformed the neighborhood with some nice new houses and families living there," said Jacobsen. "There are a total of six, either houses or lots, to develop in the subdivision. And these amendments that were passed today allow for some more time to accomplish that."
As a result of the amendments on November 10 the down payment assistance plan at Norfolk Crossing will now last through December 31 of 2009.
The houses range in price from $102,000 to $108,000. The assistance program gives those who qualify an $11,000 rebate.
