TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - A new fund established by the Tippecanoe County Commissioners will decrease the amount of money that may have to come out of the county's general fund for fees associated with wind turbines.

Commissioner David Byers said the fund will help pay for inspections and legal services. Before the fund, the money would have come out of the county's general fund.

"With the general fund being as tight as it is, the funds will come directly into this one account. We'll then be able to use it to cover any and all expenses we may have coming from these companies. That way, hopefully we're not attacking the basic taxpayer out there from the general fund," said Byers.

Byers said the fund acts as a user fee for the turbine companies. He said those who are going to be using the service will be paying for the service.

"We will have to have inspectors going out there looking at the turbines and making sure the bases are right and things like that. This will help pay for those expenses," said Byers.
