LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - A local auto business is hoping to win a contest and donate the proceeds to a school corporation struggling with budget difficulties.
Guaranteed Transmission Service and Auto Care is competing against other auto businesses across the country to get the most Facebook fans.
If the group does, it will win $4,000 to donate to a charity of its choice, which happens to be Save Our Schools: Tippecanoe School Corporation (TSC). Then the money will donated to the school district and will benefit teachers and programs.
Widmer said the goal was to get 1,000 fans. Just two weeks into the national competition, Guaranteed Transmission Service has well over 2,500 fans. Save Our Schools: TSC Facebook group founder Pam Smith said should this local business win, it would be doing more than just donating money.
"The spirit in what they are doing in that they want to be proactive, they want to help, they want to cooperate, they want to know what they can do, what they can give. I think that is what is really going to save TSC. Not that it is $4,000 but that here is yet another group in the community who is willing to stand up and say 'I am willing to do something to help solve this problem," Smith said.
Development Center Business Adviser Heather Clark-Reynolds has helped Guaranteed Transmission with the Facebook group. She considers it $200 well spent.
"To be able to use those ad dollars towards a good cause for a charity verses another marketing company," Clark-Reynolds said.
Another Charity Marathon is being planned for businesses just in Tippecanoe County. All the proceeds will go to Save Our Schools: TSC.
"Every business that wants to join has to chip in $200 and whoever can raise the most new fans between now and March 31st, that money, it is all going to be donated to TSC," Clark-Reynolds said.
Guaranteed Transmission paid $200 to enter the nationwide contest, which ends at the end of this month. The group is competing to get the most fans against 10 other auto businesses from across the country.
Both contests have started and both end March 31st.
