Donation gives Honor Flight its wings

Donation helps Lafayette Honor Flight

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The Greater Lafayette Honor Flight is getting its wings.

The first large donation was given to the organization which will take 60 World War Two veterans from West Lafayette to Washington D.C. in April.

John and Polly Tilford donated $2,674 to Greater Lafayette's Honor Flight Network.

The donation was in memory of their daughter Sarah who helped with honor flights before she died.

Gold Star Mother Pam Mow is helping organize the flight. Many Gold Star Mothers, whom are mothers whose sons died serving our country, are part of the Greater Lafayette's Honor Flight Network.

"I can't imagine any group more appropriate than the Gold Star Mothers to run this program. Poetic is perhaps not the appropriate word. Just stunningly appropriate. It's a remembrance both ways," John Tilford said.

Mow said there have been other donations since the announcement earlier this month, but none quite this large.

"We have to make a down payment on our charter flight so, this is very good timing. It couldn't have come at a better time," she said.
