LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Dog 'n Suds' root beer is going international after a Tippecanoe County marine deployed in Afghanistan asked for a taste of home.
Monday, Marine Jordan Fetcher posted on Dog 'n Suds' Facebook page, asking if the root beer could be shipped to Afghanistan so he could share it his fellow Marines. From that comment, Operation Freedom Foam was born, with many of Dog 'n Suds' Facebook fans willing to donate money to get the root beer to the marine.
Owner Dan Washington said Dog 'n Suds is donating all the root beer, but the cost to ship just one case is about $25.50. Washington said his son Dustin set up a way for people to donate online.
In just 24 hours since the Marine asked for the root beer, more than $800 has been donated to help offset the cost of shipping.
"It's not what you expect," Dan Washington said. "You try to do the right things. As a result, it touches somebody. A kid thousands of miles away who is missing everything, is missing root beer. Yeah, it's pretty amazing to me."
If you would like to help, visit Dog 'n Suds' Operation Freedom Foam page or the donation website Dog 'n Suds has set up.
