WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - West Lafayette's city budget is expected to be smaller in 2011.
The city will spend almost $1.5 million less then it did in
2010. The total budget comes to about $17 million. The expected tax
levy will amount to about a dollar per $100 assessed valuation.
Clerk-Treasurer Judy Rhodes said the 2011 budget is about
eight percent lower then 2010's. The drop in spending is because of
a reduction in property tax income.
"It's a budget that responds to the constraints from the circuit breaker. This year's circuit breaker cut tax revenues almost a half million dollars. The 2011 budget recognizes at least that large of a cut will occur next year,” she explained.
The city is saving money by not filling some vacancies in the police and fire departments. It is also not using city money for some infrastructure project.
The City Council will discuss the budget Monday, August 2 at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.
