LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Many Toyota customers have been notified by mail that the reinforcement bar has arrived at local dealerships.

Toyota mechanics were trained Thursday on how to install the part. By 10:30 a.m. Friday morning 62 people had already called to schedule a time to come in.

The part Toyota customers have been waiting for is called a shim, and it's not much larger than a dime.

"It's a metal rod that's being placed into the accelerator. We're allowing about 1/2 hour to do this. It's taking care of the problem and it's a real quick easy fix," said Craig Gipson, Director of Operations for Bob Rohrman Auto Group.

This shim is a reinforcement bar developed by Toyota engineers to be inserted under the accelerator pedal. Six mechanics inside the Toyota service department will be rotating in two shifts.

"We're open 24-7 and that's all day long, as well 24 hours on Sunday. We're doing that to accommodate the customers, to try to get their needs fixed right away," said Gipson.

11 of Toyota's vehicles are on the recall list for a potentially sticking pedal. Each model will be sized to see which shim will fit depending on the make. Gipson said their goal is to get customers serviced and back on the road.

"If you can call in and make an appointment great, bu, if you are out an about and you want to stop by we would be more than happy to accommodate you right then and there," said Gipson.

The number to the Bob Rohrman Toyota service center is 765-448-1000.
